Union held to 2-2 draw against Niendorfer
U19 Bundesliga:
1. FC Union Berlin were unable to put a two-goal lead to bed in the U19 Bundesliga, with Niendorfer TSV claiming a point in the capital on Saturday.
Daniel Eidtner and Leon Sitz fired the Köpenick club into a two-goal lead after 10 minutes. But the side from Hamburg staged a second-half comeback and levelled at the death through Jephtah Asare. Although the two points dropped are disappointing for Union, there is little consequence by change in table standings.
Union started the game strongly, continuing a good run of performances which culminated in an impressive three points gained in Bremen last week. Daniel Eidtner converted from the penalty spot inside two minutes. He then turned provider to set up Sitz to finish off from the edge of the box.
Union's dominance continued into the second half without a third goal. Niendorfer managed to grow in confidence as they game wore on and they pulled one back before the hour mark — Alexandros Tourgaidis volleying home from inside the box. Union goalkeeper Niko Kemlein was busy towards the end and was almost successful in keeping the visitors at bay.
"The equaliser was a sign given the opponent pressed and we didn't make the decisions earlier. But it's very annoying that we get the goal so late," said head coach Toni Mandl.
