Union draw with VfL Osnabrück
U19 Bundesliga:
Fabio Schneider scored from the penalty spot in the 89th minute to claim a point for 1. FC Union Berlin's U19's in the Bundesliga. The midfielder stepped up in the closing stages to take advantage of a handball in the penalty box as the Köpenick piled on the pressure towards the end.
"All in all, we lacked the power to get into the final third," said coach Andre Vilk. "We had more dominance but over long phases we didn't play enough of a compelling match. In the end, we're happy with a point."
VfL Osnabrück's deep and compact style made it difficult for Union to break through. Marius Ihbe was presented with a couple of chances, likewise John Liebelt before half an hour. Jannik Zahmel scored for Osnabrück with their first venture into Union's box after 39 minutes. Union restored their dominance on the game after the break, but were unable to break through. In the end, Schneider was given a golden chance to level the scores with a minute left after a handball. The midfielder, who has appeared twice for Urs Fischer's first-team in friendly matches this season, scored to ensure Union were guaranteed a point.
Union XI: Kemlein; Cvjetinovic (Sdric 90), Bruns, Riecke, Labroussis (Durmushan 70); Kaus (Nikol 70), Liebelt, Ihbe, Schneider, Dahlke; Czosnyka (Travassos 63)
