Berkan Taz, who scored against Copenhagen and Aalborg, set the tone for proceedings at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. The young striker could have scored several times before he eventually did later in the game. Instead, it was Joshua Mees, a summer signing for the first-team from Hoffenheim, who opened the scoring on the half hour mark. Norwegian U21 international Ryerson netted from a corner kick on 36 minutes. Taz added a third from a long ball to give Union a three-goal lead at the interval.
Halmstads came out for the second half with a number of changes to the side and grew in confidence as the game wore on. Yasarcan Cinar almost gave Union a fourth goal but Halmstads keeper Jönsson was sharp in the 50th minute. Johansson scored a second half consolation for the guests but Union held out to secure a comfortable win.
1. FC Union Berlin's final game in the Baltic Sea Cup will take place on November 6 away to Danish side Odense BK.
