Goalless draw against VfL Osnabrück
U19 Bundesliga:
1. FC Union Berlin drew 0-0 with VfL Osnabrück in the U19 Bundesliga this weekend.
The Union youths started dominantly against Osnabrück and created the better chances in the first 45 minutes. The Köpenick side won a penalty kick after a quarter of an hour, but Daniel Eidtner missed from 12 yards. There were other, smaller opportunities in-and-around the Osnabrück penalty box but Union couldn't take advantage.
The second half ended goalless. Union had the upper-hand but Osnabrück competed with aggression in the second period. Both teams levelled out and there were few scoring opportunities.
"It was a difficult game in Osnabrück as expected. The opponent battled well. Unfortunately, we passed up some opportunities in the first half. But the guys have hung in there and competed well. Overall, it was more a fight than anything," said U19 coach Toni Mandl.
Union XI: Oppermann; Rankic, Alimler, Sander; Inaler, Dehl, Gencel (Werbelow 31), Opfermann Arcones; Sitz (Petermann 63), Eidtner, Werner
