First win at Hallescher FC
U19 Bundesliga:
1. FC Union Berlin picked up a 1-0 win over Hallescher FC in the U19 Bundesliga. The goal from Linus Czosnyka with about 10 minutes left to play to secure the team's first victory of the campaign.
Felix Ewald was sent off after about 30 minutes as Union started the match second-best against Halle. The home team created some dangerous situations but weren't able to find the breakthrough. "Our initial starting phase was not good," said Andre Vilk. "We were too sleepy and had a poor base. After the sending off, we had a little more control of the game."
In the second half, Vilk's side recovered and looked the better team. Nikolai Kemlein made a few good saves as Halle threatened on the break. But the Köpenick club stepped up in the final 20 minutes and found the killer pass. Georgios Labroussis dribbled into the box and shot, the rebound came off the keeper and Czosnyka scored the winning goal.
"We can build on the performance in the second half," said Vilk. "The boys have worked their way back into the game and have compensated for a lack of numbers with mentality and work rate. That should give us a boost going forward."
XI: Kemlein; Ewald, Bruns, Riecke, Dahlke (Labroussis 61); Durmushan (Haase 26), Liebelt, Ihbe (Czosnyka 87), Schneider, Kaus (Travassos 77); Sanogo
