The Stadion An der Alten Försterei

Our Home

For over 100 years, the Stadion An der Alten Försterei has been our home. The name comes from the nearby old forester's house, which currently houses, among other things, the offices of the club management.

The stadium was opened on 7 August 1920 and has undergone various structural changes over the decades. However, the most significant modernisations were likely the installation of the floodlights in December 2000, the complete renovation and roofing of the standing areas (construction period from June 2008 to July 2009), and the construction of the new main stand (2012 to 2013).

The construction activities in the 2008/2009 season are also marked by a special feature: More than 2,300 volunteers contributed 140,000 working hours, thus playing their part in the expansion.

The Stadion An der Alten Försterei remains almost purely a standing-room only stadium even after the renovations. Currently, our stadium offers space for 22,012 fans and spectators (18,395 standing places and 3,617 seats).

Stadium Expansion

As part of the extensive infrastructure measures that began in the summer of 2023 around the stadium, a plan is in place for the expansion of the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. It will ultimately be filled by around 37,000 fans.

A milestone on the way to the new stadium has already been set. 1. FC Union Berlin have exercised the right of first refusal specified in the leasehold contract with the State of Berlin and acquired the stadium grounds. For the first time since the inauguration of the sports facilities at the Alte Försterei in 1920, the site is now owned by the Unioner.

Exclusive event location

Even outside match days, our stadium has a lot to offer. Whether as a conference, workshop, concert, or customer event – our lovingly and intricately designed main stand provides the perfect space for every occasion.

A Co-Owned Stadium

To transfer responsibility for our stadium to the Union members, the "An der Alten Försterei" Stadium Operations Corporation was founded in July 2011. Club members and sponsors had for the first time the opportunity to secure their share in the stadium with the "Alte-Försterei-Stock". In December 2024, a second stock emission followed to also involve the now nearly 70,000-member strong Union family in the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
